Last Saturday, Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Arifin Zakaria came to the Faculty of Law UKM as a guest of honor of our very own Program Pemantapan Latihan Industri. We have to say that it was such a great pleasure to meet him. It was a very casual event, where we had a chance to ask him any question. He also gave a speech, which basically focuses on our judiciary system. Well, we managed to wrote down some quotations throughout his speech:
"Student life is the best moment of our life."
"If the number of judges increased, there will be too many black car with black window."
"Ethics is the most important part of a lawyer. You must be ethical."
"English is the legal language, and we can't change that."
"Don't ask your witness unless his answer is in favor of you."
He also pointed out 4 tips on how to be a great lawyer:
1) Learn the use of technology. Lack of it will leave you behind.
2) Learn time management. To armed yourself, read some simple management books.
3) The importance of reading habit. As a lawyer, language is your tool.
4) After obtaining LLB Degree, you may be qualified as a lawyer. But this does not guarantee you to be a successful lawyer. Gaining knowledge is long life learning process. It doesn't simply stopped once you obtained your degree.
His words are definitely useful for us in improving ourselves as a law student, or maybe as a future lawyer. Insya-Allah :D
Thank you.
